A New Outlook

Sometimes the hardest things to learn in life aren’t understood until they hit you in the face. Here I am 27 years old, and no, I still don’t know everything about life, gee… imagine that! Lately I’ve been able to spend a lot more time with my family and friends who have always been able to help center me in times of need. Now, is no exception.

I’ve been through a roller coaster of events these past few months, and yes, I’m finally crawling out of my hole! I went from heartbreak, to lost, to serious personal reflection, and now I feel like I’m finally on the other side of the tunnel. I made some professional decisions in the past several weeks and now I find myself in a place that is extremely unknown, but very exciting!

Three months ago I couldn’t say the word ‘golf’ and not gag. Today, I practiced and even played a few holes with my dad. The skies cleared and even though by the second hole my towel and turned crispy from the freezing cold, I thoroughly enjoyed being on the golf course again.

I’ve decided that this year I’m going to try something new for a change. Last week, I accepted a job with the Oregon Golf Association and the OGA Golf Course. I have taken a position on their staff that will allow me to use my degree in Public Communication and Advertising/Marketing. I am the new Assistant Pro, as well as Assistant to the Director of Communications for the OGA. I’m extremely excited to be working with the staff and can’t put into words how good it feels to take on a new adventure.

Not in any way does this mean I am done with golf. The game can’t get rid of me that quick! I plan on again applying for the Tour Hopeful Program at Pumpkin Ridge, as well as competing on The Cactus Tour starting sometime in the very near future. My break from the game has been an eye-opening one, but, very much needed and definitely a good way to start fresh this year.

This new job is going to help me reach my goals in ways that I never really saw as possible in past years. As many people know, golf is not an inexpensive sport to play. And gathering sponsorship to play for the year is not only physically tasking, but emotionally as well. This job is going to give me the opportunity to support myself for a change, and go about my golf career in a whole new perspective.

Over the next several months I will be working to supplement my golf life financially through additional sponsorship, but for now, the path I’m on feels right. I’ll continue to work very hard in the gym (I’ve decided to start training for a couple local marathons this summer) as I know that when I fully return to competition, my fitness is going to play a key role in my success.

For now, this is it! I hope if you’re not in the warm sunshine, you’re surviving the frigid winter! I want to send my best wishes out to all my friends on both the Futures Tour and The Cactus Tour. I’ll see you all very soon!

Take care and thank you all so much for your continued support!
