Julie has taken a new position with The OGA and The OGA Golf Course as an Assistant Pro and Assistant to the Director of Communications

Last week, Julie accepted a new position working for The Oregon Golf Association and The OGA Golf Course, working as their new Assistant Pro as well as Assistant to the Director of Communications.

“We’re excited to add Julie’s diverse talents and effervescent personality to our team, noted Chief Executive Officer Barb Trammell.   “As assistant pro, she will work in the golf shop a couple of days a week, adding to our customer service base, and will also do some teaching.  In addition, with Julie's background in communications, marketing and graphics design, she will assist Director of Communications Eric Yaillen in developing new marketing and communications initiatives for the golf course and association and will help ensure our ‘Championship Experience’ brand is upheld.”

Wells will also work some at OGA Championships, splitting media relations duties with Yaillen.“When this opportunity presented itself, there was no question in my mind; it was what I wanted to do,” said Wells. “I haven’t had the chance to use my degree in the real world, and this not only gives me that chance, but in the place where I grew up, Oregon Junior Golf. It doesn’t get much better than that!”   Wells had worked briefly with Yaillen in the past, providing an exclusive blog on her Big Break V experiences for the Oregon Golf Association website.

Although Wells will be working for the OGA, don’t think for a moment that she is giving up on her dreams to be touring professional.  The future had looked promising during her second chance attempt this past October during the first stage at LPGA Qualifying School.  Wells had built a 2-stroke cushion going into the final two holes but chose an aggressive target on the next hole.  “My next shot was the worst shot I hit all day,” she added.  “I hit my drive straight into the hazard and ended up taking a triple.”

The next hole was no better as adrenaline and perfect contact sent her ball sailing over the green, leading to a double bogey.  Missing the cut by two-strokes, Wells commented, “my devastating experience at Q-school forced me to reevaluate everything.  I needed time to recharge and refocus, spending more time with my husband and family in Wilsonville, and find a much needed change in her life.

Julie will be one of the faces you can see representing the OGA and the OGA Golf Course at the upcoming Portland Golf Show, February 8-10 at the Oregon Convention Center.
