Well, I just finished up play in the Oroville Golf Foundation Tournament in Oroville, California. (Just northwest of Sacramento). I had a great time with my friends Dan and Kim Hale, and of course my roommate Dixie Eckes. I have looked forward to this event all year. We play a great golf course, compete for a wonderful purse, and enjoy a wonderful local community that really makes this tournament special.
Overall the tournament went well for me. I saw a lot of improvement over the last week with my putting and my course management. Even though I really struggled to get the ball to the hole, I found myself making good strokes and even found a bit of a new routine that is definitely helping me line up better over putts. Over the three rounds, I found that my short game let me down more than I would have liked. My chipping was very inconsistent and I really had problems with some of the simplest chip shots. I realized that I over think speed, direction, landing areas…. the things that should just come naturally instead of technically. You practice these things to use muscle memory in tournaments. And that is what really hurt me this week. I shot 76-76-74, finished 10th, and missed the money by 1 stroke.
I feel like things are coming together; my ball striking has been consistent, I’m putting well, and now I just need to put in a lot of time on my short game over the next couple of weeks. I will be heading to Phoenix on Sunday to play in two Cactus Tour events before LPGA Q-School.
I would like to thank Lonnie and Scott for putting together a great houseboat trip for all of us in Oroville. We had a great time and it was definitely greatly appreciated! What a great site…. a bunch of lady golf pro’s, on a boat, fishing! Thank you to all of the volunteers for their time and effort in making this event such a success! Special thank you’s go to Joe Matz of NorCal Waste, Compass Equipment, and C. Gary Ott Insurance for their support of this tournament! I hope to be 100% healthy next year, no burns, no flu!
